St Wolfgang Holidays

St Wolfgang Introduction

St Wolfgang is a tiny ski resort lying in spectacular scenery on the shores of Lake Wolfgangsee beneath the Schafberg Mountain. With only twenty kilometres of piste and limited off-piste skiing, it is a resort favoured by families, novices and intermediate skiers. There is also good cross-country skiing. The ski area is reached by ski bus, a thrilling thirty five minute journey along mountain roads with hairpin bends overlooking deep gorges and a stunning landscape. Once the Postalm Plateau is reached the lifts give quick and easy access to the slopes. The area, at twelve hundred metres, is ideal for beginners with many gentle confidence-building slopes. Intermediates will also find a variety of slopes including the run to Gosau for the more adventurous. St. Wolfgang is not an ideal choice for advanced skiers although there are some demanding runs in Gosau. Tuition is offered in skiing from the age of six and in boarding from the age of eight. A range of accommodation satisfies most budgets and its variety restaurants provide for most tastes. Nightlife is fairly relaxed although there are one or two lively venues where, if you wish, you can party until the early hours of the morning. To complete your holiday entertainment, St Wolfgang offers a number of recreational activities.

Why Go To St Wolfgang?

St Wolfgang is an old market town located in the heart of the Austrian Lake District and surrounded by breath-taking scenery. It is an excellent destination for families and all but advanced skiers and boarders. A comprehensive range of recreational activities are offered to complete your holiday enjoyment.

A St. Wolfgang ski holiday is very popular with families, novice and intermediate skiers. It is a small relaxed resort offering good skiing and boarding at those levels of expertise.

When To Go To St Wolfgang

The St. Wolfgang ski season lasts from early December until the third week in March. The resort is also popular in the summer months with walkers, climbers and mountain bikers.

St Wolfgang - The Place

St Wolfgang, with twenty kilometres of pistes, is one of the country’s smallest ski resorts. This relaxed family resort is set in a wonderful landscape with a stunning combination of shimmering lake and white peaked mountains. Although the altitude of the town lies at five hundred and forty metres, the ski area sits between twelve hundred and fifteen hundred metres offering good snow cover throughout the season. The slopes are a forty minute bus ride to the lifts for the Postalm Plateau which offers great skiing conditions for novice and intermediate skiers. While St. Wolfgang has limited terrain for advanced skiers and borders, neighbouring Gosau provides demanding slopes. Boarders looking for more challenging slopes should also head for Gosau where there is a snow park and a pipe. Ski schools provide tuition for children from six years in skiing and eight years in boarding. There are also childcare facilities.

St. Wolfgang has a range of accommodation to suit most budgets and restaurants to satisfy most tastes. Its nightlife is fairly tranquil with bars providing relaxing venues. To complement your days on the slopes, a St. Wolfgang ski holiday offers a variety of recreational activities including ice skating, sleigh riding, snow shoe walking and tobogganing.

St Wolfgang Nightlife

Although St. Wolfgang has a couple of lively venues, it is not a resort for party animals. The village is as relaxed in the evening as it is by day, reflecting the resort’s popularity with families.

St Wolfgang Shopping

St. Wolfgang has a small pleasant shopping centre with a variety of specialist shops. If these are insufficient for your needs, you can always take an excursion to Salzburg which will satisfy even the most avaricious of shoppers.

St Wolfgang Eating

St Wolfgang has a good number of restaurants which provide a wide variety of food to suit most tastes and budgets. While many serve traditional fare, international cuisine and fast foods are also available. The larger hotels have excellent a la carte restaurants where you can dine in style.
