The resort has wonderful sandy beaches offering a variety of water sports, and there are many land based leisure pursuits. These include an eighteen hole golf course set in an attractively designed landscape with flowers, ornamental trees and fountains. The resort enjoys almost year round sunshine and is a very popular destination for those seeking a break from the gloomy days of the British winter. When To Go To Port El Kantaoui

Port el Kantaoui is a year round holiday destination with hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures average thirty three degrees and in the winter temperatures rarely drop below eighteen degrees.

Port El Kantaoui - The Place

Port El Kantaoui is a very attractive resort built in traditional style with gleaming white buildings and narrow cobbled streets and alleyways. Surrounding a modern three hundred and fifty berth marina, the village was designed with quality and comfort in mind. It is a popular resort on the Mediterranean coast of Tunisia with a long golden sandy beach which slopes gently into the sea giving safe conditions for children and less confident swimmers. Much of the beach is private belonging to the hotels on the waterfront, but there are also long stretches of public beach. A variety of water sports are available including sailing, fishing, surfing, diving and water skiing. Glass bottom boats give a good view of marine life without ever having to get wet. The marina offers good facilities and luxury yachts are frequent visitors. It is the focal point of Port el Kantaoui and along the waterfront are fine restaurants, bars and boutiques. A mini train runs between the marina and the beaches in the north of the resort. The golf course here is so pretty, and the variety of flora so amazing, that it could be mistaken for botanical gardens. Other activities include horse riding, tennis and bowling. Children can enjoy Aqua Palace with its flumes, the small zoo and the Hannibal Park with rides and a rollercoaster.

Port el Kantaoui offers first class accommodation with many hotels overlooking the beach. Set within well tended gardens with great pools, they offer a high level of luxury and excellent service. Its restaurants serve a variety of menu from traditional fish and meat dishes to international cuisine. Although there are a few lively venues, nightlife is fairly relaxed, reflecting the resort’s popularity with families and couples.

A Port el Kantaoui holiday can be taken at any time of year in the knowledge that the sun will shine, the sea will be warm and the atmosphere relaxed. If a more authentic Tunisian experience is wanted, Sousse, with its souks, its fortress and a fine mosque is only ten minutes by car.

Port El Kantaoui Nightlife

In Port el Kantaoui nightlife is fairly low key with hotels providing much of the evening entertainment. Live shows are popular and the larger hotels have nightclubs. Those who enjoy a holiday flutter can take a short taxi ride to Casino Caraibe which also has a restaurant and entertainment.

Port El Kantaoui Shopping

Port el Kantaoui has supermarkets for essential provisions as well as many gift and souvenir shops and stalls supplying holiday mementoes. A selection of boutiques and specialist shops are found along the waterfront. Tunisia is a souvenir hunter’s paradise and the souks in neighbouring towns with their markets and bazaars local craftsmen and women making and selling their wares. These include pottery and ceramics, carpets, baskets and leather goods to name but a few. The richness of olive wood is shown to good effect in the carved bowls, kitchen utensils and even in jewellery items. Except for the more formal shops where prices are controlled, bartering is a way of life to be enjoyed by both the seller and the customer.

Port El Kantaoui Eating

Although many holidaymakers eat in their hotels, there are still a good number of restaurants serving a variety of cuisine and catering for most tastes. The prices here reflect the resort’s upmarket appeal but the quality is superb. Fish of course is a prominent feature on menus. Fresh from the boats and simply cooked it delights the palate. Cous cous is the national dish and this is combined with meat, fish or vegetables and spices. A popular fast food is called ‘brik’ which is filo pastry filled with egg and vegetables or meat and then deep fried.

Local wines are good and reasonably priced. Drink only bottled water.
