Megeve is an attractive town in the Haute-Savoie region in the Alps of south eastern France. It is an upmarket resort which has attracted skiers since the early twentieth century. The town lies at an altitude of one thousand metres with the highest slopes reaching two thousand three hundred metres. The snow can at times be sparse around the town but there are a good number of snow cannons to keep the slopes open. Megeve, refreshingly, has no large hotels or apartment blocks to spoil its charm and its traditional atmosphere. Megeve has over four hundred kilometres of pistes accommodating all levels of ability and over one hundred lifts giving skiers and boarders easy access to the slopes. Tuition is available for groups and also for individuals although this option is considerably dearer. There are crèche facilities for children from twelve months. Megeve has many restaurants both in the town and on the mountainside serving a variety of wonderful food. Retailers in the town should satisfy ardent shoppers and nightlife is lively with bars, discos and clubs. A Megeve ski holiday also has much to offer the non-skier.

Megeve is one of the oldest ski resorts in the French Alps. Lying under Mont Blanc, Megeve is a very picturesque town with narrow cobbled streets and fine architecture. When snow falls in this fairly low lying resort it is transformed into a romantic wonderland with horse drawn sleighs running through the streets. Developments have not included large hotels and apartments as the resort does not cater for the mass market and as a result Megeve has retained its charm and its traditional atmosphere.
Megeve has a very large skiing area with almost four hundred and fifty kilometres of pistes. Ski passes are valid on over one hundred lifts giving easy access to the slopes. Megeve has cheaper passes for those who do not wish to ski but who want to eat in the mountain restaurants. The highest altitude in this resort is almost two thousand four hundred metres. At that height the snow cover is usually good and if there is a paucity of snow there are a good number of snow cannons. Megeve has slopes to satisfy most skiers with thirty-five black runs, over eighty red runs, sixty-five blue runs and almost forty green runs. There are also many off-piste opportunities. Two snow parks and a half pipe give a varied terrain for snowboarders. Ski schools provide tuition for boarders as well as skiers including children from four years. There are crèche facilities for children from twelve months.
Megeve holidays are perfect for people with non-skiers in their party as there is much to keep them entertained. There are good walking trails, an indoor and an outdoor skating rink, a sport and fitness centre, an indoor climbing wall, a bowling alley and a swimming pool. Other recreational activities include dog sledging, snowshoeing and paragliding. There are also many fine shops where you can while away the hours.

Megeve has many fine shops and boutiques in the narrow streets around the medieval church. In the pedestrianised area, it is a pleasure to wander the streets window shopping. If your budget is small window shopping will be all that you do. Megeve is an upmarket resort and the prices reflect this.
Megeve has more than its fair share of fine restaurants, eight of which have Michelin stars. The restaurants serve a wide variety of food from the traditional Savoyard raclette to international cuisine. It is, as expected, an expensive night out. Megeve also has excellent cafés and restaurants on the mountains above the town.
