Marbella, on the Costa del Sol, is one of the better known holiday destinations in Spain. While it has the well deserved reputation for being the most upmarket resort on the Spanish coast, it is not the sole domain of the rich and famous. A Marbella holiday offers wonderful beaches in stylish surroundings with the best of facilities.
A Marbella holiday offers day long sunshine on golden sands being washed by the warm Mediterranean Sea. Every kind of water sport is available for visitors and there are excellent golf courses both in and around Marbella. The night life has something for everyone from a romantic evening for two to partying until dawn.
A Marbella holiday has widespread appeal. With its beautiful beaches offering safe bathing for families with small children, water sports with varying degrees of excitement for the adults, magnificent golf courses, superb shopping and a vibrant nightlife, it is really no surprise that Marbella attracts so many people to its shores.
Although Marbella is a year round holiday venue, the summer holiday period is probably the most popular time to go, with guaranteed sunshine and warm seas. Many choose a Marbella holiday in order to escape the dreary British winter.
Marbella is known as a rather exclusive resort on the Costa del Sol. The old town, in the heart of the resort, has a traditional charm with its narrow winding streets lined with whitewashed houses adorned with vibrantly coloured flowers. The lanes open out into small squares with pavement cafes offering a place to rest and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. La Plaza de Los Naranjos, or Orange Square, holds the sixteenth century Town Hall as well as shops and art galleries. There are several parks, all offering shade in beautiful surroundings, while the Constitution Park is a concert venue during the summer months. Hire a horse drawn carriage and explore Marbella in style.
The beaches in Marbella have lovely thick golden sand perfect for the construction of castles or other more complex sculptures. Water sports including jet skiing, sailing, fishing and scuba diving are all available. The promenade, shaded by its mature palms, does not offer the usual Costa del Sol fare. Instead of the gift and souvenir shops there are some fine restaurants and bars.
Many people come to Marbella for the golf and there are a number of excellent courses in and around the area. Remember to bring your handicap certificate as this is usually a course requirement.
Marbella is a vibrant resort by both day and night. There are a large number of clubs, discos, show bars and casinos many of which remain open until the early hours of the morning. Marbella also caters for those wishing to enjoy a more relaxing evening with its many restaurants in the old town and along the promenade.
There are many shopping opportunities in the Costa del Sol but none compare with Marbella. The Golden Mile in Marbella is full of elegant boutiques where you will find the latest fashions. The tiny shops in the narrow streets of the old town delight shoppers with their range of often unusual goods. Puerto Banus is also known for its excellent shopping opportunities.
Marbella has a wide and varied menu for its holiday makers; from cordon bleu restaurants to tapas bars and from fast grills to traditional fish restaurants. Marbella has food to accommodate all tastes. Local wines are pleasant and very good value.
Children are always made welcome even in the most exclusive of restaurants.
