Les Deux Alpes is built on a large plateau between the villages of Venosc and Mont de Lans. It is a ski resort where most runs are over two thousand metres and can therefore almost guarantee snow throughout the season. The village lies at an altitude of sixteen hundred and fifty metres and is one of France’s oldest and highest resorts. The wealth of slopes provides for all levels of ability and the terrain is ideal for snowboarders. Indeed, the World Championship Boarding competition has been held here on more than one occasion. Les Deux Alpes lies on a high plateau in the northern Alps. Although it began to develop in the late forties, many of the hotels and apartments date from the seventies. The resort has over two hundred kilometres of piste, most of which is above two thousand metres and therefore enjoys good snow cover throughout the season. The nursery slopes are usually found closest to the resort but, in Les Deux Alpes, the lower slopes are steeper and more challenging. A wide nursery slope lies beneath the village. There are many opportunities for off-piste skiing. Les Deux Alpes also has an excellent snow park with half pipes, tables and kickers. In addition, there are two boardercross courses. The resort is above the tree line and with most of its slopes being south facing, skiers can enjoy hours in the sunshine. The glacier provides year round skiing but the lifts are only open from June until the end of August in the summer. Although the lifts servicing the slopes can carry over sixty-five thousand people an hour, at certain times of day queues can form. Ski schools provide tuition for all levels of ability including children from three to eleven. There are crèche facilities for babies from six months if you have an up to date vaccination certificate.
Les Deux Alps has accommodation to suit most budgets, restaurants catering for all palates and a lively nightlife for those whose energy levels have not been exhausted by the slopes. It is a family friendly resort with many recreational activities including ice skating, a heated outdoor swimming pool, squash courts, bowling alley and a gymnasium.

There are over sixty restaurants in the village with a further nine mountain restaurants serving a variety of food from traditional mountain fare to international dishes. There are also fast food outlets and pizzerias. The highest restaurant, Restaurant les Glaciers, at over three thousand metres, provides breathtaking views as well as good food.
