Amadores Holidays

Amadores Holidays

Amadores Introduction

Amadores is a purpose built resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria which offers excellent amenities. Beaches on the island can sometimes be disappointing but this man-made offering is superb. Amadores lies close to Puerto Rico which can be reached via a cliff top path. Being the most recent resort on the island, Amadores accommodation is first class and has the comfort of holidaymakers in mind. There are all-inclusive hotels, self-catering apartments and villas with pools. There are shops for holiday essentials as well as gifts and souvenirs. Most of the tourist attractions are in the south of the island including three golf courses. If you want to relax on a soft sandy beach, bath in warm shallow waters and generally laze about, then an Amadores holiday is for you.

Why Go To Amadores?

Amadores is a very family friendly resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria with a wonderful beach and excellent modern accommodation. It has all the amenities necessary for a relaxed carefree holiday in the sun.

Amadores appeals to families with young children and couples of all ages. The beach is its major attraction with soft sand and calm waters. The larger hotels provide children’s entertainment. Owing to the topography of the resort, those with restricted mobility must choose their accommodation carefully as there are steep gradients.

When To Go To Amadores

An Amadores holiday can be taken at any time of year, with its pleasantly hot summers and warm winters offering yearlong comfort.

Amadores - The Place

Amadores is a well-planned newly built resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria. It possesses all the amenities necessary for a pleasant, relaxing holiday by the sea. However, if a little more choice is required, visitors can share the facilities of its close neighbour Puerto Rico. Amadores main attraction is its wonderful expanse of man-made beach. It stretches for half a mile round a wide bay and is protected by two breakwaters stretching out towards each other. This provides safe bathing in the shallow waters for children and less confident swimmers. The clear waters are ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling. There is a collection of cafes, bars and shops behind the beach so you are never far from refreshments. Amadores nightlife is fairly low key with the larger hotels providing entertainment. Livelier evenings can be found in neighbouring Puerto Rico, although it is not a resort that parties until dawn.

The ocean around Gran Canaria has ideal conditions for whale and dolphin spotting and for big game fishing where it is possible to catch blue marlins weighing hundreds of pounds.
Golfers will find an eighteen hole golf course close to the sand dunes in a nature reserve in nearby Maspalomas.

Many of the islands attractions are found near Amadores including the very popular Aqualand. With over thirty slides including the Anaconda and the Tornado it appeals to both children and adults alike. Here you can actually swim with the sea lions.

Holiday world is a theme park with exciting rides.

Inland Gran Canaria is well worth exploring with its stunning scenery and charming old villages. Jeep safaris to Mount Tejeda are an ideal way to explore the island.

Amadores Nightlife

Amadores is as peaceful at night as it is by day reflecting the resort’s popularity with families and couples. Evenings are spent strolling through the resort enjoying a meal or a drink in the company of family and friends. For a wider choice, and for livelier entertainment, take a stroll along the cliffs to Puerto Rico.

Amadores Shopping

Amadores has a variety of shops supplying holiday essentials as well as gifts and souvenirs. Since one of the attractions of shopping in Gran Canaria is that goods are virtually tax free, it is worth visiting the Centro Civico in Puerto Rico which has a wide variety of shops and boutiques. There are two other shopping centres, Agua la Perra and Europa, which have good supermarkets well stocked with essentials and a number of souvenir and gift shops. Popular purchases include embroidered linens, leather goods, ceramics and jewellery.

Amadores Eating

Amadores has a number of restaurants serving a diverse cuisine that caters for most tastes. For a change of scene and a little more variety walk the half mile to Puerto Rico which has many bars, cafes and restaurants.. The tapas bars provide welcome sustenance in the long hours between lunch and dinner, generally served much later than in Britain. Fish features prominently on menus often accompanied by mojo, a spicy pepper salsa and salted potatoes. A good way to sample Spanish food is to order a plate of tapas which consists of a medley of bite-sized dishes. Tapas are also ideal for filling the sometimes long gap between lunch and dinner, which is served later in the Canaries than at home.

Children are always made very welcome in restaurants and their tastes and portion sizes are usually accommodated.
